About Us
Education
As an evolving research and teaching centre, Misericordia is proud to be affiliated with various educational organizations, including the universities of Manitoba, Winnipeg and Brandon, as well as colleges and learning centres in Winnipeg. Our specialist physicians, nurses and allied health-care professionals provide patient-centred care and conduct research while giving future health-care professionals hands-on training. Some of our professionals hold joint appointments with the universities.
MHC Education Calendar
We are excited to share our facility-wide education calendar. This tool enhances communication of learning opportunities, both within and outside the facility.
Student Placement
Misericordia Health Centre co-ordinates student placement in collaboration with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. More than 178 university and college students trained with us in 2009 -2010 – from physiotherapists to paramedics to dietitians.
Education Funds
Misericordia offers two funding opportunities for staff seeking assistance for tuition requirements and Misericordia School of Nursing graduates pursuing further nursing education. These include the Health Education Fund and the Misericordia School of Nursing awards fund.
There are also many other continuing education opportunities available to Misericordia staff such as union and professional organizations.
Transcript Requests
Misericordia School of Nursing graduates seeking their transcripts may complete the Transcript Request Form or call 204-788-8283 for more information.
General Orientation
A comprehensive general orientation takes place 10 times a year for new staff members and we encourage the attendance of current staff members who wish to review specific areas.
MESA
Misericordia Health Centre's Elder Sensitive Approach (MESA) is modeled after the Nurses Improving Care for Hospitalized Elders (NICHE ) program developed at the John A. Hartford Foundation Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University. MHC is proud to have attained NICHE designation and be a part of a distinguished network of hospitals who demonstrate dedication to improving the quality of care provided to older adult.

Staff, patients and families have access to our on-site University of Manitoba library services.
