Planned Giving
A Gift For All Time
A planned gift can be as simple as a gift that is promised today but is given at a later date.
Every planned gift, no matter the size, will make a difference to the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation as it strives to provide supplemental funding to meet the needs of a strong and meaningful health care system. A planned gift may include:
- gifts through your will - bequests
- gifts of capital property such as stocks or mutual funds
- real estate
- gifts of life insurance, residual interest and remainder trusts
- gifts of RRSP or RRIF funds
Bequests
After providing for your family and loved ones the most common legacy gift is a bequest. A bequest is a direction placed in your will to give property to a particular beneficiary - a charitable bequest is a gift in your will to a charity or a Foundation.
As another option, as of May 2, 2006, the federal budget has made gifting publicly-traded securities such as stocks, mutual fund units and income trust units one of the most tax effective ways to make a donation or a bequest. All such gifts will be exempt from paying any tax on the capital gain which may have accrued since your date of purchase.
There are numerous ways to lend support to Misericordia Health Centre Foundation and we are available to assist interested individuals and families, often in consultation with their professional advisors to design gifts that are in keeping with their circumstances and our gift policies.

Tribute Program
There are many occasions when we wish to pay tribute to those who are dear to us. If someone makes a donation on behalf of another person – a relative, friend, loved one or other – the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation will notify the individual or the family of the Tribute Gift made on their behalf. Here are just a few reasons to make a Tribute Gift:
- To honour someone’s birthday
- To commemorate an anniversary – a wedding anniversary or the anniversary of a death of a loved one
- To honour the memory of a deceased relative or friend
- To say “thank you” to Misericordia – either the Health Centre itself or a specific staff member
