Recreational Therapy
Therapeutic Recreation is designed to bring about emotional, social and physical or other positive changes in individuals with limitations. Recreation seeks to help individuals increase independence and develop skills for improved quality of life.
At Misericordia, Recreation provides a plethora of benefits for our residents. We:

- promote a healthy lifestyle along with physical, emotional, and mental well being

- provide leisure education and adaptive programming to enhance recreation skills and increase leisure awareness

Here are just a few of the ways Recreation improves the quality of life of our residents at MHC:
- community involvement through sandwich making for Siloam Mission, a
local humanitarian agency, and making gourmet pet treats for local animal shelters
- intergenerational programs including school and daycare visits
- health promotion includes yoga, group exercise programs, dancing and physical games
- art and craft programs including card making, knitting and quilting
- creative writing, pet therapy visits and horticulture therapy
- music - including in-house performances by members of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and local Manitoba artists
- challenging cognitive programs including crossword puzzles, trivia, word scrabble, wheel of fortune, news and views
- special events including holiday resident family dinners, barbecues and Travel the World theme weeks
